Intern - Humanitarian Policy & Advocacy (Danish Red Cross)

Danish Red Cross (DRC) is part of the world’s largest humanitarian organization, and we are looking for an intern to join our Humanitarian Diplomacy and Movement Engagement team to support our humanitarian policy work on a daily basis in a challenging yet inspiring environment.

As part of the International Department Secretariat, our team works closely with colleagues across units, departments, country offices and Movement partners. As an intern, you will gain hands-on experience in international humanitarian policy and advocacy, and you will learn about Danish Red Cross’ international work.

During your internship, you will support and learn about the following areas:

  • Monitoring the agenda of the UN Security Council, as Denmark is currently one of its elected members.
  • Monitoring EU humanitarian and foreign policy developments, and support DRC engagement in EU processes and with relevant EU institutions.
  • Support the team’s work on analyses, policy briefs, background notes, and communication materials for advocacy and movement engagement.
  • Assisting in the planning and coordination of events and meetings, including logistical arrangements, technical setup, note-taking, and the preparation of presentations.

The assignments in the Humanitarian Policy team are of a big variety, and the specific tasks will be adapted to your academic background, interests, and qualifications.

We imagine that you:

  • Are enrolled in a relevant university program (e.g., political science, social sciences, law, development studies, international relations, or similar)
  • Are fluent in English, both written and spoken. Speaking Danish will be an advantage.
  • Have a strong interest in humanitarian work, international affairs, and global engagement.
  • Possess strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Are well-structured, detail-oriented, and flexible, with the ability to work independently and take initiative.
  • Are passionate about making a positive impact through humanitarian work.
  • Knowledge of the Red Cross Movement, the UN Security Council, EU, and International Humanitarian Law will be considered an advantage.

Application and Terms

We look forward to receiving your application and CV in English no later than 20 November. Applications are accepted only through our online recruitment system.

The position will be based in Copenhagen, at Danish Red Cross office near Skjolds Plads. Interviews will take place during week 48 at our Copenhagen office. The internship is ideally full-time, preferably from 1 February until the end of June or July 2026. Start and end dates, as well as working hours, are flexible and can be adjusted.

The internship is unpaid; however, DRC will provide a computer, workspace, lunch, and cover all costs related to participation in meetings or travel outside Copenhagen, if required.

If you have any questions or need further information, please contact Humanitarian Policy Advisor, Emma Steen Hvidemose, Mob +45 3179 4869 or email emhvi@rodekors.dk

We look forward to hearing from you!
