Part-time Lecturer with expertise in Global, International and Development Studies

Roskilde University educates students to solve actual problems in real life. We challenge the academic traditions and experiment with new ways of creating and acquiring knowledge. Would you like to join us?

The Department of Social Sciences and Business at Roskilde University invites applications for one or more position(s) as part-time lecturer at our international social science programmes from September 1st, 2025, or as soon as possible thereafter. The position as part-time lecturer is limited to a period of three years. Teaching responsibilities, typically ranging from 150 to 300 hours per semester, are determined in consultation with the Department prior to each semester. A fixed number of teaching hours cannot be guaranteed each semester. The position is exclusively a teaching position and does not include any research obligations or possibilities.

The Department conducts interdisciplinary, collaborative and socially engaged research based on political science, international relations, economics, anthropology, business studies, sociology, legal studies, and development studies. To support our research-based teaching in our English taught social science programmes, we seek one or more external lecturer(es) to teach within the broad academic field of global, international and development studies. The teaching relates primarily to our international social science bachelor programme, our bachelor specialization in International Studies, and our MA programmes in Global and Development Studies and International Politics and Governance. Expertise in international political economy, international politics, global sociology, global economics, global governance or development studies are particularly valued.

  • have relevant high-level practical experience in the field of global, international, and development studies obtained through a non-university appointment or
  • are employed in a major position at another university

Assessment
In the assessment of the applicants, emphasis will be placed on:

  • Relevant practical experience demonstrating academic competences in the social sciences (if the applicant does not hold a primary academic position at another university).
  • Experience with teaching in English to non-native English-speaking students
  • Independence yet demonstrated effective collaboration skills

If your application is based on relevant practical experience, you are required to maintain current academic knowledge in your field of expertise.

Introductory courses

  • Introduction to Roskilde University's pedagogical approach
  • Introduction to project supervision

The courses last two and three hours respectively and are conducted as a direct extension of each other in either Danish or English. Find and read more about the courses here.
