Student Assistant for the Department of Nordic Studies and Linguistics

Department of Nordic Studies and Linguistics at the University of Copenhagen is seeking a student assistant starting from March 1, 2026, to support the research project Danish Corpus of Digitally Mediated Interaction (DanDIGI).

We are looking for an efficient student who can work an average of 10 hours per week. The position is temporary and will end on February 27, 2027.

About us
The DanDIGI project (https://nors.ku.dk/forskning/projekter/dandigi/ ) aims to establish a text corpus of Danish texts from web forums, Twitter, Facebook, and Messenger to serve as a basis for language and interaction studies. The project is hosted by the Centre for Language Change at the Department of Nordic Studies and Linguistics (NorS). At the Centre, we study linguistic variation and change in Denmark in recent times, and we host one of the world’s largest spoken language corpora (https://lanchart.hum.ku.dk/ ). With DanDIGI, this corpus is expanded to include everyday written language from social media.


Work tasks
Your primary task will be to assist in preparing Facebook data collected in various research projects at the Centre for Language Change for inclusion in the text corpus. The data consists of PDF and image files that must be converted into text files and annotated in XML.

Your tasks include assisting with the following:

  • building the DanDIGI corpus, including maintaining, correcting, and documenting corpus data
  • testing and documenting AI tools for automatic recognition of, for example, text, emojis, and images
  • other minor tasks as needed.


Your qualifications
A relevant academic background (e.g., IT & Cognition, Computer Science, or another IT-related program).

Additionally, we value that you:

  • are organized and can work in a structured and systematic manner.
  • can work at least one day per week.
  • work well independently and in collaboration with others.
  • have knowledge of and interest in AI.
  • have an interest in linguistics.
Please specify in your application which IT skills you have, including programming experience, relevant courses, etc.


Salary and terms of employment
The employment is made in accordance with the Collective Agreement between the Danish Ministry of Taxation and the Organisations of Public Employees – governmental institutions (the OAO-S collective agreement) and under the Professional Agreement for clerical employees, laboratory technicians and IT officers in the state (HK) § 35. The minimum wage is DKK 142.97 (as of November 1, 2025). Your salary will be based on seniority.


To be considered for the position, you must be enrolled as a student at university level and an active student.
