Head of Finance

Would you like to lead and further develop the Finance function at Denmark’s largest refinery? Kalundborg Refinery is seeking an experienced Head of Finance to combine hands-on operational finance leadership with strategic influence on site performance.

The high requirements for safety, operational reliability and regulatory compliance in a critical industrial environment require strong financial leadership, clear governance and the ability to create effective collaboration across site operations and Group functions.

Kalundborg Refinery is critical infrastructure within Denmark’s energy supply system and accounts for more than 15% of the country’s total energy consumption. Since January 2022, the refinery has been part of Klesch Group and operates alongside a sister site in Heide, Germany, and a recently acquired refinery in Gelsenkirchen, also in Germany. Under Klesch Group ownership, Kalundborg Refinery continues to operate with an uncompromising focus on safe and reliable operations, operational excellence and long-term value creation.

As Head of Finance, you will lead the full Finance function at Kalundborg Refinery and act as the primary financial steward and business partner to the Site Managing Director. You will be closely connected to Group and report to the Group CFO, ensuring alignment with Group finance standards, controls and reporting. As a member of the Leadership Team, you will contribute to the Company’s overall business strategy and take responsibility for both day-to-day operations and strategic initiatives across Finance.

You will have overall leadership and management responsibility for Controlling, Accounting, budgeting and Tax in Kalundborg. Your key responsibilities include:

• Ensuring effective and efficient management and execution of all finance-related matters.
• Ensuring operational excellence within Finance and compliance with applicable requirements and Company policies.
• Overseeing quarterly financial reporting and the preparation of annual financial statements, ensuring clean, credible and on-time reporting with no material control gaps.
• Overseeing and monitoring relevant direct and indirect tax matters.
• Preparing monthly management information for the shareholder and senior leadership team. Ensuring an effective and timely monthly financial close.
• Driving the budgeting process in Kalundborg with close coordination with project managers and Group.
• Supporting the management of structured finance arrangements, including preparation for and participation in bank calls, liquidity planning and liquidity monitoring.
• Leading and developing the Finance team, strengthening KPI dashboard reporting and building clear succession visibility.

The right candidate has:

• A degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics or a related field, combined with 8–12+ years of finance experience in multinational and manufacturing or industrial environments.
• A track record of leading a Finance team of comparable size, approximately 10–15 employees, at plant or site level.
• Strong command of IFRS and experience with financial reporting; consolidated reporting experience is an advantage.
• Experience with cost accounting, standard costing, capex appraisal, ERP systems — preferably SAP or equivalent — and advanced financial modelling and analysis.
• Fluency in a Scandinavian language and professional proficiency in English.
• The ability to operate confidently as a peer to plant operations leadership and manage stakeholders effectively across a dual reporting structure.
• Attention to detail and ability to present complex matters in a simple way.
• A demonstrated ability to develop and retain an engaged Finance team, communicate difficult financial truths with commercial tact and build strong functional capability.

The position is based in Kalundborg, Denmark. Travel (app. 2 days per month) is to be expected.
