Are you interested in using analysis to improve international humanitarian interventions and are you looking for experience within the humanitarian sector? Do you have strong methodological and analytical skills? Are you interested in applying what you are learning as part of your university degree to support the humanitarian work of the Danish Red Cross (DRC)? Then you might be our new Strategy Evaluation Student in the Humanitarian Policy & Analysis unit at DRC.

DRC has an ambitious International Strategy (2022-2025) focused on achieving three breakthroughs: People Live Healthy Lives, Disasters Damage Fewer Lives and People are Safe and Included. To build evidence on how change happens within each of the breakthroughs and to inform how DRC and the wider sector contribute to transformative change, DRC has initiated a series of strategic evaluative exercises that will run until the end of the strategy period.

We are looking for a student assistant to be part of the DRC study and evaluation teams that are responsible for coordinating the planned strategic studies and evaluative exercises under the direction of the Team Coordinator for PMEAL and IM, as well as contribute to all aspects of the exercises including developing methodologies, preparing data collection tools, coordinating country visits, analysing data, formulating findings and coordinating new ways of disseminating learnings and findings.

DRC has activities in more than 20 countries in Africa, the Middle East, Europe, and Asia and as Strategy Evaluation Student in the Humanitarian Policy & Analysis (HPA) unit in the International Department, you will be part of a dynamic environment. The HPA unit leads DRCs international evaluation and learning function and coordinates and supports global policy influencing efforts. The unit also leads and supports data, analysis and study efforts in support of strategic directions and ambitions.

Your tasks

The assignments will focus on supporting the coordination of breakthrough studies, outcome harvesting exercises and similar strategic evaluative exercises. If time permits, you will also support other studies DRC is undertaking during the period. You will be involved in all aspects of the study as team member of the study team. Some of your tasks will include:

  • Coordinate day-to-day management aspects of the study including preparation and facilitation of meetings within the governance structure;
  • Identify, prepare and share secondary data used in the study;
  • Coordinate logistics related to field visits incl. liaison with Country Managers, field staff, security advisor etc.;
  • Prepare data collection tools;
  • Take part in primary data collection;
  • Coordinate global level primary data collection as per the inception report;
  • Support in cleaning and analysing secondary and primary qualitative and quantitative data sets;
  • Identify findings and learning from data sets, alongside the study team;
  • Plan and coordinate creative dissemination of findings and learnings.

Your profile

  • You work independently, are action driven and enjoy working as part of a team
  • You have strong analytical and evaluative expertise
  • You have experience with data and information collection methods
  • You enjoy working with different types of data and analysis
  • You are excellent at coordination and communicating with a range of different stakeholders
  • You have excellent Excel skills, including use of basic formulas and pivot tables
  • You are well structured, have an eye for detail, are thorough, resourceful, proactive, and flexible when necessary.
  • You have excellent communication skills in English (written and verbal)

We offer

You will learn about the Danish Red Cross international work and receive ongoing supervision and support by your colleagues in the Humanitarian Policy & Analysis unit. At the same time, you will get the opportunity to apply what you are learning in your academic career in a challenging, yet inspiring setting. You may get the opportunity to take part in field visits as part of the evaluative exercises.

The Strategy Evaluation Student position is expected to start as early as possible. The position is timebound for one year to support the strategic excersises until the end of the current strategy period. The weekly hours will be 15, and the payment is according to the collective bargaining agreement with HK and AC.
