Blended Finance Advisor at the Danish Red Cross: a purpose-driven job in an international organization

 

We are looking for a Blended Finance Advisor to join the Global Partnership Unit and help us develop and operationalize sustainable financial models for our humanitarian work.

 

The Global Partnership Unit, is responsible for the global resource mobilization and for coordinating the strategic direction of the Danish Red Cross organizational partnerships and is dedicated to the design and development of sustainable business models and scalable blended financing tools that can help us reach our objectives. The overall purpose of the DRCs international engagement is to increase and strengthen the humanitarian impact, inspire, act for human dignity, and enhance resilience and social cohesion in fragile contexts of poverty, conflict, and disaster.

 

If you have experience in designing and implementing blended financial tools, combined with experience in humanitarian or development contexts, you might be the ideal candidate for this position. You are eager to apply your financial skills and literacy to make a positive impact, and you can translate innovative financing models to fit and sustain humanitarian and/or development contexts. You are excited about working in a truly global movement that supports millions of people and communities in vulnerable situations.

 

More specifically the Blended Finance Advisor will:

  • Support the design and implementation of innovative solutions for financing sustainable impact, such as insurance products, health bonds, debt/equity options, and impact investments.

  • Provide technical support, advice, and quality assurance for selected strategic project proposals/formulations, as well as ongoing monitoring of projects in operation.

  • Analyze risks and returns associated with financing strategies.

  • Engage with private sector partners, including private foundations, insurance groups, and banks.

  • Collaborate with country managers and technical experts to identify and assess potential blended finance investments/opportunities aimed at scaling our solutions.

  • Identify new business opportunities through collaboration with Red Cross and Red Crescent partners, industry stakeholders, and other relevant entities.

  • Support the structural approach to financing in the DRC, including liaising with finance and other relevant structures to ensure readiness to handle various financing modalities.

  • Contribute to the knowledge initiatives of the team and organization by developing communication products to share information and lessons learned from blended finance projects with internal and external stakeholders.

We are looking for a candidate with the following competencies:

  • Masters or MBA in Business, Finance, Economics, International Affairs, or a related field.

  • Minimum 2-3 years of experience in finance, insurance, impact investing, sustainable investment analysis and modeling, debt and/or equity products, and loans.

  • Proven track record of designing, structuring, and/or implementing finance solutions.

  • Strong analytical skills (financial and business modeling) and business acumen, ideally gained in a financial environment such as insurance markets, capital markets, investing, or strategy consulting.

  • Extensive experience with cross-sector partnerships and stakeholder management.

  • Good understanding of the international development funding sector.

  • Knowledge of ESG and the Sustainable Development Goals.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.

  • Flexible and willing to travel up to 8 weeks/year

We offer:

A full-time position of 37 working hours per week in a busy and inspiring workplace showing flexibility and caring about staff welfare. Furthermore, you will have the opportunity to work in a motivated team and be part of Danish Red Cross large global humanitarian action and contribute to impact. You will refer to the Head of Global Partnerships in Copenhagen. The position is located in our offices in Copenhagen.

 

Note that the position is time limited until December 2025 with possible extension.

 

Salary and employment conditions will comply with Danish Red Crosss collective bargain agreement with HK and AC.
