At DanChurchAid we are looking for a Head of our newly established Internal Audit who will be responsible for building and operate the unit.
DanChurchAid supports the poorest in the world in their struggle for a dignified life and helps people in need. We provide emergency relief in disaster-stricken areas and long-term assistance in poor regions to create a more equitable and sustainable world. To be prepared for the challenges and opportunities of the future, DanChurchAid wishes to strengthen our internal control environment and ensure the highest level of compliance for our collaboration partners and donors. In 2021 DanChurchAid established a Whistle Blower Scheme to complement the existing complaints handling mechanism. An external legal company have supported the roll out of the Whistle Blower scheme, and with this position we seek to internalise the continued roll out and management.
DanChurchAid is headquartered near Vesterport station in Copenhagen, Denmark. Our work spans 20 countries across the globe, in Africa, the Middle East, Asia, and Europe. Our efforts also include fighting food waste through our WeFood stores and encouraging the re-use of things through our 120 thrift shops.
Job Description
The Internal Audit unit will function as an independent and objective unit supporting the organisation designed to add value and improve operations by implementing a structured approach to ensure risk management, internal controls and governance.
As Head of the Internal Audit unit, you will have a valuable role in preparing an annual audit plan in collaboration with the Finance Director, the Audit Committee, the Secretary General, and other departments involved in risk management and compliance. You will be responsible for building and managing a team of high-performing audit- and legal professionals. The team is expected to consist of the head of the unit and two colleagues. The unit will among other be responsible for DanChurchAids whistle-blower scheme and preparing quarterly reporting to our Audit Committee.
Your responsibilities will include:

Planning, execution, reporting and follow up on audits in accordance with the agreed audit plan.

Evaluate financial and operational procedures to support the internal control setup is in place and operating effectively.

Schedule and execute on ad-hoc projects and other duties assigned by the Audit Committee.

Quarterly reporting to the Audit Committee with the result of the audit work with focus on high-risk areas, significant control issues and progress with management follow up actions.

Contribute to strategic initiatives for DanChurchAid by identifying, analysing, and providing guidance to the board and Senior Management on dilemmas and risks.

Contribute to organisational and strategic development (vertically and horizontally).

Building and manage a team of high-performing audit and legal professionals.
We are looking for someone passionate about using their skills to make a difference and to understand, be able to, and find it exciting to work in a highly complex organisation where risk appetite is determined by many factors and where organisational vulnerability is closely tied to a low threshold on DCAs reputational risk. The ideal candidate will have excellent stakeholder management skills and be able to make successful relations both vertically and horizontally.
Qualifications:

Relevant University degree and Professional audit certifications.

A minimum of 4 years of audit experience in internal or external audit functions.

Experience with the NGO or a similar sector is an advantage.

Experience with auditing, operational risk, and compliance processes.

Ability to pinpoint and actively raise and pursue difficult issues at senior management level and suggest options taking different consequences into account.

Willingness to travel internationally to all DanChurchAid locations.

Excellent collaborative skills and strong written and spoken communication skills, including ability to communicate effectively with all levels in the organisation (both Danish and English).
